Chapter 7

ABIGAIL COULD PRACTICALLY see poor Jason gulp at the sight of their boss standing there. It would have been a normal enough situation had she not just seen him by his office a few seconds ago and now he was on the bottom floor. As a vampire, it wasn’t impossible, and shouldn’t have been surprising, but the intensity in his gaze as he completely ignored Jason and focused on her took her breath away.

“Uh, I’m just gonna—” Jason started but was cut off when Sebastian’s eyes snapped to him.

“Leave.”

That one word was enough to have Jason scuttling out of the elevator door with his head down. He didn’t even look back once as he darted down the hallway. Coward.

Abigail drew herself up, pursing her lips. She pushed past Sebastian’s stoic form and started down the hallway, acutely aware of the footsteps following her. She waved at Trisha before pushing open the door and stepping out onto the New Orleans street.

Turning right, she headed toward a little Creole restaurant that had become her regular place to eat her evening meal when she didn’t bring her lunch. She hadn’t gotten more than a block before she was viciously pulled into an alleyway.

The brick wall scrapped her back, and she winced and glared at the dark sapphire eyes boring into her.

“What the hell is your problem?” she snarled, trying to push away from the wall, but the hand on her shoulder that was precariously close to wrapping around her neck kept her in place.

“What is my problem?” his heavily accented words reverberated through her as he pressed himself closer to her. His fangs, that he usually kept hidden behind closed lips, flashed in the streetlight.

“Yes, you can’t just accost me on the street like a wild animal. I might be your employee but I’m still a human being.” She pushed at him once more, but he caught her hand in his and captured it against the wall.

“A wild animal, am I?” he laughed at the statement. A shiver ran down her spine at the sound of it, settling in between her legs. It wasn’t fair how affected she was by him. The very sound of his voice was addicting, making her crave the delicious contrast of pain and pleasure it offered. “I am not the one throwing myself on the employees like a cat in heat.”

An offended gasp fell from her lips. “I was not throwing myself at Jason. We were having a polite conversation. Not that you know anything about that,” she huffed. “You practically threw me out of your office this evening because of your blood whore.”

“Blood whore?” he leaned back from her just slightly, his eyebrows raised. The genuine confusion on his face caused some of her anger to fizzle.

“You said so yourself,” she continued. “The blonde from Cerulean Companions? Don’t I mean anything to you? I mean, I know it was just a couple of kisses, but when someone starts to become physical with another person that usually means something.
